What a summer it's been!! We've been all over, sharing the Good News and enjoying meeting many new faces. But with fall here, it's time to redirect our emphasis and start doing some fundraising for you! We'll be at the Recovery Walk celebrating National Recovery Month at Lakes Park on Sept.26th from 8am till noon. Olga, Florida will be the site of a free health fair coming up Sat. Sept. 19th at Grace Church. Summit Christian School, St. Michael's, and Pilgrim Church are all in the queue, and we can't wait to see all of you! PUT US TO WORK FOR YOU!!

Christian Tees in Maggie Valley

Have you ever seen a prettier place to sell tee shirts?? Neither have we! We went to Maggie Valley NC to raise funds for the Outdoor Mission Camp and got to hear the legendary Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys pickin' and singin' bluegrass music. The weekend was filled with food made by church ladies, mountain crafts, and friendly people. We even had "bluegrass church" put on by the Christian Bluegrass Association. We had to share this! We were at a show recently and were beside a guy selling his own brand of tees for those still out on safari. Oh, I remember those days- I'd have done just about anything for a drink near the end........ Thankfully God had other plans for my life! I am so grateful to be sober and free.

What Is Radical Recovery?

In AA we are told to "practice these principals in all our affairs". Do you know what a radical concept that is? If we practice these principals in ALL our affairs it means that we do not reach for any substance to deal with our challenges. We do not escape with drugs or alcohol- that's a given. But what about our sex lives? Do we escape or avoid our troubles with the intoxication that comes from pornography, or the excitement of yet another conquest? Many of our members today are hooked on gambling sites, resulting in financial destruction and divorce. We often see our fellows gain weight after getting sober- still yearning and turning to food for comfort. The list of substances we addictive types turn to is almost endless!

Radical Recovery happens when we stop turning to substances to get through life. It requires certain elements- a growing relationship with God, accountability, and a willingness to hurt from time to time. It takes time and help to get there, but it is worth it!

Recovery Tee Shirt Saves The Day

This is so cool! We got a report from a friend of Bill's that really warmed our hearts. She was at the hospital, it was late, and she was very distressed about her mother's condition. She walked into the cafeteria and saw someone sitting at a table wearing the "R-rated for Recovering" tee shirt- and knew she had found a friend.
